AFROPUNK, a music festival and cultural movement grown from semi-cultural cult classic documentary called 'Afro-Punk' by James Spooner, celebrates that it has become an international movement being the most multicultural festival in the US. It is quickly expanding. In fact their website (www.afropunk.com) states, "...AFROPUNK itself has become synonymous with open-minded, non-conforming and an unconventional community, placing the institution at the epicenter of urban culture inspired by alternative music." While I was at the fest during the end of each night, to witness the reactions fest goers had towards the fest and the movement itself I captured the styles and fashions that they wore. Bold patterns of all kind were the highlight for all of the trendsetters. Vibrant reds, yellows, blues and greens surrounded each subject captured. Anyone knows when you’re attending a music festival the best way to dress is comfortable and stylish. Many choose jean cut offs and a simple tee while others choose long dresses and simple accessories. The thing that really caught my eye was the face art. The festival draws a crowd of the most confident and avant-garde afrocentric New Yorkers and people from all around the world. If you didn't get a chance to attend this year, I highly suggest making my plans for 2017 now. It's worth the trip, the connections and the music. All of the smiles on everyones faces in these photo moments are a confirmation that this fest is life.
